Banyan’s Extended Domestic Supports Services (EDSS) Program responds to the needs of perpetrators and their families and communities.
The innovative case management approach provides individuals with new learning opportunities to increase their skills and abilities, improve and change negative behaviour, disrupt the violence within themselves and their peers, embrace non-violence, have the skills to heal, repair and manage conflict and be accountable for their actions.
Using individualized plans, Banyan’s EDSS clients are supported by a multidisciplinary team who will work with them to help them achieve their goals in the following areas:
- Address underlining issues driving the aggression
- Providing support for addictive behaviour
- Implement Trauma Informed Care model to address Mental Health issues
- Safety planning
- Knowledge of healthy relationships
- Knowledge of parenting skills
- Navigating the Hamilton system to obtain security in food, housing, education and employment
- Psychiatry support
- Substance Physician support
- Trauma informed care

What is Banyan’s Approach?
Banyan’s approach is strength-based and is oriented towards competency building and social inclusion. Each person is entitled to be dealt with in a manner that recognizes their individuality and that responds to their needs and preferences. This includes preferences based on ethnic, spiritual, linguistic, familial and cultural factors in an environment that takes into account race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, family diversity, disability, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or cultural or linguistic needs of the client.

How is this program delivered?
Depending on the client’s needs, service delivery will take the form of individual level interventions, one-on-one counselling, group work, education sessions and/or navigation support.
