George R. Force Group Home (GRF) is 10 bed, open custody and detention program for young males aged 12-18, who have been found guilty of an offence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act or have been charged of committing an offense that is serious in nature so that the young person cannot remain in the community under their own recognizance. Banyan’s strong infrastructure supports high-risk youth who have been placed by the court into GRF. Specialized programs and services offer youth new learning opportunities to increase their skills and abilities, improve and change negative behaviour, increase youth engagement with supports and decrease re-offending to ensure public safety.

Our Governing Law and Ministry Support
On April 1, 2003, the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) came into force. The YCJA provides the legislative framework for Canada’s youth justice system. Amendments adopted by Parliament in 2012 aimed to strengthen the ways in which the youth justice system deals with repeat and violent offenders.
Our GRF program and services fall under the mandate of the MCCSS. Its mission is to strive to make a difference for children and at-risk youth in Ontario by improving outcomes through supporting a continuum of evidence-based programming and building strong partnerships with youth, families, communities and governments. GRF was Established by Banyan in 1978.
